Firework night warmer
To keep you warm on this firework night, we have found a beautiful, simple and warming recipe from Ella Woodward, that you can make with your JR Juicers. Not only will it keep you warm, the beetroot juice is fantastic for your health as one of the true superfoods. This juice recipe is beautiful cold, but we recommend warming this trough and wraping up to watch the fireworks.... be safe, have fun. stay juicy :-).
I’m having a little beetroot obsession at the moment, I’ve just realised that this is my third beetroot based recipe in the last month – so I hope you all love beets as much as I do! Promise I’ll focus on some other veggies in the next few weeks though! So, along with the beetroot obsession that I’m sure lots of you have noticed, I’m also imagining that lots of you are reading the title of this recipe thinking that it sounds very strange – hot juice, I mean since when was that a thing?! I totally agree, it sounds weird but I promise you it’s not even a tiny bit weird. In fact it’s totally revolutionary, unbelievably delicious and utterly addictive! I first created this recipe a year ago and have been hooked on it ever since. Last winter I made it almost every day and ever since London started getting cold and rainy it’s become a daily ritual again. It reminds me of hot Ribena, which I used to drink all the time as a child and have the happiest memories of. It’s a pretty sweet drink, and it feels a little like dessert, which is great for when you’re cold and tired in the evening. For those of you that are green juice addicts I should say that I’ve tried adding some greens to this, but it made the flavour a little strange so I think it’s best to stick with the sweeter veggies and a little fruit.
Obviously warming your juice does slightly diminish the vitamin content, but as we don’t boil it and it only warms up briefly you still get lots of the goodness. I drink this as well as classic green juices, but I find that in the winter a mug of this is more nurturing and soothing for the mind and body than a cold green juice can be. Plus you can cuddle up on the sofa with it feeling cosy and warm while you watch the cold weather outside, one of my favourite things to do!
Serves 2
– 2 beetroots (300g)
– 6 carrots (500g)
– 4 apples (500g)
Simply peel the beetroot, then put it through your juicer with the carrots and apples. Collect the juice and pour it into a saucepan.
Gently heat the saucepan for a couple of minute, keep it on a low heat at all times – you want it to cook slowly and take it off the heat before it reaches the boil.
Once the juice is nice and warm but not boiling hot, pour it into your mug and enjoy!
